    Question stopping spread

can anybody help me with stopping the spread offense with the 3-4 ? I tried audibling to a 2-4-5 this guy would be hitting the slot recievers and he would hike before i could adjust my coverages and for some reason my blitzes out of the 2-4-5 or dime was not getting to him I use the steelers any input would be helpful?

lol i run this kind of offense what you want to do is get pressure up the middle and possibly try some cover-3 to take away some of his options

I maybe wouldn't focus so much on shutting down his whole offense. Make sure to change your plays often between double coverage, 2 man under, man flats, and crap like that that will focus mainly on his playmakers. Take away his big plays too by switching around with some 4 man under, and those zones with 4 man deep and two in the curl zones. The more he has to pass and the more you make him work that short underneath the stuff the more he will start to make mistakes. Also make sure to blitz about every other play to get pressure on the QB. Choose your blitzes on his tendencies. If he doesn't keep any extra blockers in, blitz 5, if he keeps in two, blitz 6 or 7.

yea and the thing is alot of spread guys dont play with teams with a strong running game usually they'll have a team with a speed back...so basically get creative on defense switch ur style up dont play ur base "D" adjust to his game!
All right Mister, let me tell you what winning means you're willing to go longer,

the spread set is excellent against a blitzing defense if the offense can make quick throws. the formation you use isnt really a big issue.

i think you need to mix your coverages and take away his quick outlets to the slot WR or the back... try using man to man cover 1 blitzes, but freeze your defense. so you will have a LB on the slot WR but if he wont be lined up on him. if the qb tries to quick hit the slot it will get deflected....

do the same with zone coverage.... freeze the D so that you always have 7 or so defeners in the box. the offense will then have to account froma blitz from any angle. mix u where the heat is coming from and always have somone rotating over to where the blitz came from.

last, dont think you need to go to dime, quarter, or 2-4-5 just cause he has 4 or 5 WR's. i usually go to 4-3 or 46 vs spread sets... be the aggressor and dont just go with smaller dbs.
