tips for run stopping

I need help stopping the I form one wr outside runs. I've tried using the 3-4 and that 4-6 outside lb blitz, but it seems to not work because he gets outside everytime with ray rice. I need to know some good plays to use to stop the outside run because his passing game is trash but ray rice is killing me. I currently use the jets pb, but any other 3-4 pb suggestion with be accepted.

Haha - yeah, I use that play in my arsenal. The best way to stop it is to shoot the gap and blow it up i nthe backfield while containing the strong side.

3-4 Normal - MLB Storm Blitz

1. Pinch and loop DL.
2. Reblitz MLBs in respective A gaps.
3. User the FS to contain the outside or fill the hole.

Try going with some of the QB Contain plays...

They will give you man coverage which stops the run better than zones, along with Contain assignments that prevent the runner from getting outside, and a spy that will try to shoot the gap when the ball is handed off.

If you'd rather not go that route, you can add a contain assignment to any defense by selecting a defender and A/X (360/PS3 respectively) and the left stick down.

Another way to attack outside runs is with a SKY coverage that sends a high safety to the flats. The safety will head to the flats but unlike the defenders that are already near the LOS, he won't have to fight off blockers. Even if he doesn't make the play, he can funnel the runner back to pursuit.

Hope this helps....

Its all about alignment and execution to stop the run.

Shift your linebackers to the strong side of the formation. (Tight end side)

Shift your d line to the weak side and Contain your weakside defensive end to counter a cutback, or playmaker run to that side.

Cover 3 zone is good against outside runs if you shift your linebackers to the side of the run play.

Cover 4 zone is excellent against the run because BOTH safeties can help out if they have high awareness. A lot of people dont know how to use cover 4 zone to stop the run, but cover 4 can be very effective.

Just a few tips.

But all in all, shifting linebackers to the strong side is what counts. And shift your d-line to the weak side.

I'm not very good w/ the 3-4 but I have had some luck stopping the outside run game w/ the 46. I manually control the LB and speed/sprint to the outide to contain the HB back to the middle of the field. It doesn't always stop them but it limits the huge gain.

46 bear cover 1 works well, just beware of the pass, cover 1 might not work so well. If he doesn't pass then it should be ok.

It looks like the Jets have the 46 normal. I would try the 46 normal cover 1. Control the LB that isn't blitzing and get him oustide fast. You can flip this play at the play call menu or on the field to adjust to your opponent.

Good luck!

When you user the MLB and just sprint to the outside, how bad do you get burned on playaction passes?
