Madden Drafts: Your Diamonds in the Rough

What late-round picks have you found that have benefited your team the most or what late-round pick have you found to be better than other 1st-round picks in the Madden-made drafts?

I ask this because I found a RB by the name of Pershing Williams who was listed as "UNDRAFTED" so I was able to select him with the 1st pick of the 7th round. His overall, 83. Better than any other RB in the entire draft and I only picked him to fill roster spots at the RB position. Now he's my 2nd-string RB.

I also found my starting LG Faitele Taue'etia in the 7th round, his overall is now a 96. My C Alex LLoyd was also a late-round pick, his overall now being a 92.

I found my starting ROLB Khoury McGrady in the 5th round. His overall was an 83 as a rookie. Now at 96.

My starting QB Tristan Riley was a 5th-round pick, his overall was at 82 and now he's a 92 and better than any QB from his draft class.

My now starting wide receiver in his 3rd season, Andre Crusoe, was selected in the 5th round, his overall beginning at 72. A weird glitch happened this last offseason with him; by his 3rd season, his overall progressed to a 90. That was the same year his contract ended but once I signed him to a 6-year deal, suddenly his overall shot up to a 94 and also my 3rd-string WR's overall shot up from an 76 to an 87 (his original position was at TE, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I have not the slightest clue how it all happened). I have no idea how that happened but I'm not complaining.

Another weird thing about that; I traded away Josh Morgan [49ers franchise] with him hitting old age and his overall stagnant at 89 but when I traded him to the Dolphins, his overall shot up to a 93. I was pretty heated at that but then the aforementioned WR shot up to a 94 so I'm pretty happy.

-----

I find myself trading down in the drafts quiet a bit because the late-rounds usually carry the 'A' potential players and those players are the ones I've built my franchise on.

What players have you found in the late rounds that are now your star players?

My best was 7th round 1st pick and getting D'Ambro Savage - 84 overall SS with 91 speed and 87 AWR.

I got a TE in the 4th who was an 85 overall and had 88 speed in an older franchise. He dominated games.

Either in the 5 or 6th round in that same franchise I got a MLB that was 81 overall with mid 80s speed w/ 80s AWR and TAK. I think he had 95 power too.

i had Andre Crusoe on my niners chise as a high 80's ovr H-back and was a good back-up to Gore and could have been my starter when Gore retired... but he was just to old too by then

Last draft, I got a 85 ovr RT in the 6th round.

The one before I got a 81 ovr WR in the 3rd round, a 83 ovr SS in the 4th and a 77 ovr WR (96 speed) in the 6th round. After one season, they're respectively 92, 89, 87.

Found a great SS in the 7th round, his projected round to be drafted was actually set to 'undrafted'. His name was Carlos Landry, don't remember his exact stats, but he was at 85 OVR and I signed him to a 7 year deal at next to nothing. After getting ROTY and DROTY his overall jumped up to 91.

As it has been said, safeties in the 6th and 7th rounds grade out very impressive, very frequently. Mid round receivers too can be impressive.

Khoury McGrady drops from an 80ish OLB to a 94ish DE. 4th-5th round. 90 speed, too.

Im only playing the ps2 version (since I only play chise) but alot of the players I have on my team were later round picks..

I normally look for players who have particular skills. I look for speed and at WR and RB and work on their acceleration and aglity over the first couple years in the Skills part of preseason.. Pretty much the same for CB and saftys and most of my LB's are middle round picks.. I try not to pick WR's and RB's to often in the first round.. They get to $$$$ later in their careers..

Overall I probably keep half my draft picks after the season. releasing the rest for new picks.

In my old chise I had a CB who I drafted in the 7th who I built up to a 99 overall. He was just a monster with a tackle of 89 speed and aglity to burn and a catch of 95

No, don't put him at DE; I have him at OLB and he progressed to a 96 OVR. He's the best OLB in the league right now in my franchise.

Were you running a 4-3?

I generally user my MLB or my RE if I don't get the time to switch and McGrady off the edge was just nuts. I usually don't have the personnel for a 3-4, so I just drop him into the 4-3 where I can make him the biggest difference maker. If he's sitting at OLB he's not going to get the max amount of snaps (dime, nickle sets) that he should and probably not going to do a whole lot for the defense.

I drafted a wr in the 4th round last name bacon who was an 80 overal 6'5 jump of over 90 with 90 spd and made him my 3rd wr and 2nd tight end across from vernon davis and he has been great in short yardage catches and great at causing mismatches.
