Interesting convo between me and my father (caution: Involves Brett Favre)

So my father calls me last night to laugh at Peyton Manning in my ear...So we talk for a little bit then he basically starts rambling about the media and how they cover things. Then:

Pops: 'The media loves to act like Brett Favre is an all time great'

Me: 'Uh, he is?'

Pops: According to what?'

Me: His resume, everything he's accomplished in the league?

Pops: No way, how many rockheaded interceptions has the man thrown? And he continually gets a pass

Me: No doubt that Favre is the last guy I'd want in a big game but he's still an all time great QB.

Pops: The guy is in the same boat as Peyton Manning. All stats, little to show for it in the SB column..

Me: Doesn't change the fact that the man had one of the greatest stretches in NFL history during his prime, or that he won 3 MVPs, or that he's amongst the tops in damn near every relevant QB category.

Pops: What about QB rating?

Me: QB rating, what's that?

Pops: you may not like it, but it's relevant to the discussion. Favre is one of the most overrated QBs ever. Hell give me Troy Aikman and Ben Roethlisberger over Favre

Me: QUE?!?! Troy Aikman? He isn't a pimple on Favre's arse. I can understand not liking the man, because God knows I like Bett Favre about as much as I like root canals but that is blind hatred. Aikman isn't on the same galaxy as Favre

Pops: Stop defending your boy.. <----LMAO

Where did I blast Aikman?

Simply put, he is nowhere near Favre's caliber of QB.

Whether you want to go with numbers, the eye test, skill or whatever it is. Favre>>>>>>>>>>Aikman.

I don't care about who wins and who doesn't. Favre is a superior QB, and to me it isn't close.

Is that meant to say Aikman is terrible or anything of that sort? Nope. But he is no Favre.

And how can I forget your love for the Cowboys when that is exactly what inspired this post? lol

If I can't put my personal feelings why in holy blue hell would I be defending Brett Favre? You know, the guy that I dislike more than damn near any other athlete?

Favre is more talented, Favre is more productive (to say the least), Favre is a 3 time MVP, Favre had one of the greatest 4 year stretches the game has ever seen, Favre is the only player to throw 30+ TDs 8 times (Aikman never did it).

But most of all, watching them play. Favre simply is better than Aikman by a wide margin.

How exactly is he NOT much better than Aikman? Becaue Aikman was on three title winning teams?

Personally I would say Favre is better than Aikman. He did/still is doing more with less, no Hall of Fame line (though Steve Hutchison is a lock HoF guard), no Hall of Fame back (maybe Peterson if he sorts his fumbles out).

I'm not saying Aikman wasn't good, I mean I spent the whole of the 90s hating the bastard, but I think he was a product of being on a very good Dallas team for most of his career. In my opinion when you have a back like Smith who's probably gonna get 100 yards it makes it easier on the QB.

Just my opinion though, certainly up for debate.

ok, so it's basically about the numbers that Favre put up throughout his career, right?

OK, So, Aikman had Smith, so it took the heat off of him... Understood!!!! Favre didn't have that dominant back, so he had to throw more, right? Thus, putting up better numbers.
