VG Spelling Lesson

As a public service to some of our less fortunate posters here, I thought it would be nice if we have an ongoing educational thread to help people with their spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Rather than call people out individually, I thought we could have a "one stop shop" for all of your grammatical needs. I'll get this thing started, but anyone is welcome to contribute. Educating the youth of today takes a village...

Lesson 1: corps/core

When refering to a team's WRs as a group, the correct term is WR corps. A corps is "a body of persons acting together or associated under common direction." A core is "the hard or fibrous central part of certain fruits, such as the apple or pear, containing the seeds." The word "corps" is pronounced just like the word "core" though. The "ps" is silent.

i dont see why we have to do this all the posters here can do what they want and i fully support them this is a very good forum and we dont need people telling us what to do i like not pressing one damn button on my keyboard to make myself make sense thanks for trying to understand my rant bye

BluEStorm_47 Also, when describing an Impact Player, never say IP Player because it is like saying Impact Player Player. I have noticed this countless times. Also, NO ONE says "shotty" any more so refer to it as Shotgun: (Specific Formation)

Referring to the shotgun as "shotty" should bring a swift kick to the nuts and an automatic banning..........

Lesson #2: You not U

Don't be lazy. Type out the whole damn word or don't type at all.

Lesson #3: Periods are your friend.

Nobody likes reading an endless flow of mumble jumble thoughts that never ends and just keeps going and going like you know I think it is really annoying and it just is really hard to read and like I don't understand why people can't press the stupid little button to end the sentence because it really makes me mad and I feel like I'm going crazy when I read a post like this and it keeps going and going and I really would kill to see a period or a comma or an exclamation mark but it never comes and yeah ok I'm done now

dominant/dominate

Dominant is an adjective that means "exercising the most influence or control."

Example: Adrian Peterson was dominant on NCAA 06.

Dominate is a verb meaning "to control, govern, or rule by superior authority or power."

Example: I will completely dominate anyone who steps to me in cribbage.

ludicrous/Ludacris

Ludicrous means "laughable or hilarious because of obvious absurdity or incongruity."

Example: "The effect momentum has on games of NCAA 07 is ludicrous."

Ludacris is an intentional misspelling of the word "ludicrous" used as a stage name by Atlanta rapper Chris Bridges.

Example: "The new album by Ludacris debuted at #1 on the charts."

Ironically, using "ludacris" when you mean "ludicrous" is actually kind of ludicrous.

Hysterical. You have my full support, M-dub. There's nothing like perusing your average thread on this board or a whole host of boards just like it to make me feel like I should be ashamed of playing video games. There should probably be a rule to the effect that if you can't manage to put together a sentence in the Queen's English, your mom/wife/girlfriend should take away your controller and put you to work on your grammar.
