For the majority of NFL Fans, the NFL Draft is their first chance to see where their favorite team is heading for the following season. Did your team go with the flashy receiver that makes spectacular catches in the back of the end zone, or did they go with the left tackle that will anchor their O-line for the next decade?
For Madden fans we focus on the draft to see how the young rookies are going to affect this year’s game. It just takes that one player to completely change the dynamics of a Madden team. Just take a look at how Mike Vick and Randy Moss impacted their Madden teams when they were drafted. Soon everyone in Madden wanted to throw it up-top with Moss’s amazing speed on the outside, and scramble outside the pocket with Vick.
This year’s draft had some players that we can’t wait to control in Madden, and over the next few weeks we will begin breaking down these players and showing how they are going to make huge impacts on their Madden teams this year.
For the first player that we are going to look at, we didn’t have to go far into the draft to find him. This 6’5” 248lb Quarterback from Auburn could create havoc with his strong arm and quick feet. Cam Newton was the first overall draft pick in 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, and is one of those players that gamers can’t wait to see on the field in Madden.
His arm strength is an attribute that will carry him far in Madden this year. With quick receivers like Steve Smith on the outside of the field, Newton can spread any defense on the field. Newton is another one of those QBs that truly shines when he gets out of the pocket and has the freedom to run or pass. His 4.59 40-yard dash speed will make it easy to pick up first downs when his receivers are covered.
Cam’s speed as a QB will make defenses have to keep an extra man or two in the box to help the D-line contain one of the most athletic quarterbacks the game has ever seen.
