Which player should I user-control on defense?
I receive this question often, and we recently broke it down on TWIM 72. Many players have gotten into a habit of controlling a defensive lineman against the computer and are now, years later, still afraid to get beaten downfield. All of the top Madden players know that to win, you must user a player in the back seven to maximize how much ground you can cover.
You can always cover more ground than the computer, jump your opponent’s route easier, and you can maximize a lower rated player who has great athletic ability but lacks awareness. You may get beaten a few times early, but by starting now you will be making big plays in no time, especially with the new ballhawk in Madden NFL 13.
What is your favorite position and player to user in Madden? Leave it in the comments!

No matter what I still get beat deep!!! it’s like the other guy KNOWS where Im going. I alternate between the MLB and the SS and or the FS but nothing I do works..its absolutely CRAZY to me how ppl make the SF 49ers defense look like the Raiders secondary…

I like using LBs/SS or whoever goes to the flats. if nobody goes to the flats i just roam over the middle

This is the worst game in the world online, it is absolutely impossible to beat players who have perfected there 7- or so plays that they just rpeat eveb if you know its comeing you cant stop it, this is cheating, doing the same thing over and over again. DO THE MADDEN CREATORS MAKE THE PLAYERS WITH A MEMORY RATEING I WILL DEFEND AGAINST MEGATRON IF HE DOES 10 CURLS OR SLANTS OR WHATEVER IN A SINGLE GAME. VERY STUPID GAME.

How is this cheating? repetition equals perfection. My suggestion is practice different schemes, this will allow you to figure out which formations will stop those plays… If your not smart enough to figure it out, well rather than crying about it try playing a new game.. Man up!

I agree with Glen. I don’t know if I’d call it cheating but I would rather call it “unrealistic”. I was under the impression that this game was supposed to be…REALISTIC. I have had the same results playing online. I end up playing against people who exploit every trick, cheat, & glitch in the game. I’m not a genius but I do have a better than average knowledge of the real game of football. I find that to “compete” against these people is to throw my knowledge out the window and just try to go with the flow. Will someone please tell me when was the last time they watched NFL football on Sunday afternoon and saw ANY team get an interception on 4 or 5 successive pass attempts by the opposition. When was the last time you saw ANY team (other than Brady or P. Manning), run a no-huddle offense 10 times in a row? When was the last time you saw a team that was up by 28 points use an on-sides kick after every score? It gets really rediculous at times to the point where I think about just quiting the game…but I don’t quit! Now “NOT QUITING” is realistic. To top things off (online)…whenever I do get into a groove and start a come-back, the so-called “experts” QUIT THE GAME!!! What kind of sh*^t is that? It’s highly UNrealistic that’s what it is. I have reduced my efforts to playing more CPU games or against people that I actually know will play the game the way it is SUPPOSED to be played. Ok..I know some will say I’m crying, “man-up”, etc. To them I’d say…”YOU get real”!!!!
