With the introduction to Physics in Madden NFL 13 as well as having hands on experience with it at E3 I can without a doubt say that it is the ultimate game changer. You will notice a difference in the game the second you pick up the paddles. The noticeable changes are the following…

- Running in between tackles – you now need to be precise with your cuts when running with the ball. No longer can you just mash on the turbo button and take unrealistic cuts. If you do expect to trip and stumble causing you to lose momentum. This is the biggest change we noticed at E3.

- Gang tackles – love seeing all the tackles at the end of plays. guys come flying in to clean things up. this was great to see in the game.

- No two plays the same – because of the above you feel like every play is a new experience which adds replay value.

With all the exciting news what do Madden Tippers think?

I have read and seen conflicting rumors on the custom playbooks in Madden 13. I read somewhere that they are in the game but are not available for Connected Career Mode. This would make sense for ranked and unranked games. SGibs is there anyway that you can confirm if any of what I have read is true?

The guy who does the play books is a VG original NCAA content writer Mad Bomber. He deffinetly implements what the real NFL does. Guys need to realize the league runs similar plays with different focus areas.

The new more realistic physics engine is certainly a step in the right direction, but to expect it to be perfect right away is to be beyond optimistic. This year is going to be a little bit of a work in progress. Be patient. The brand is moving forward and that's a good thing.

If I can tell anything about Madden from the NCAA Demo, it is that a greater element of randomness has been introduced into the defensive AI. Alot of players are seeing this as issues to be dealt with, but I believe it will add an element of excitement to the new game - especially early on. Call the same O verses the same D and the same result isn't going to happen every time. The defense is going to play differently based on the decisions made by the individual defenders. This will mean receivers will break wide open at times when they shouldn't. It will also mean defenders will be sitting on routes at times. Those that can recognize these decisions and take advantage are going to have success. Those that try to read and respond to the defense based on their recognition skills gained from playing past Maddens and acting without looking are going to go through many a controller on the path to many EA blaming rage quits.

Inv, I've heard that custom playbooks are in, but I don't know for sure.

I disagree i think the playbooks are more like 50% of the actuals. Why did the dev team reduce the number of formations/sets/plays? Even if a team runs a play once a year it still is in the playbook average number of pages for NFL playbook is 600-800 but in Madden the number of plays per book has been reduced by 30-40%... why? I understand the team can't possibly include every single play but to strip the playbooks down makes no sense. If anything the the plays per book should have increased instead it was decreased.

I see mixed posts regarding customs ..in or out? Thanks for sharing the information that you have gathered to this point. Much Appreciated

    God Bless!

Going with your reasoning I would ask why take out the fantasy draft when there was nothing wrong with it other then the CPU draft logic as it applies to drafting the younger players that have not seen their full potential. If EA has not figured out yet how to incorporate that logic into the CPU drafting then I understand why they would leave it out. As far as the custom playbooks there was no reason to leave this out and if Gibs says they are in there I am inclined to believe that they are because I am sure he has his hands on some semi-finished version of the game so that he can write the guide, so I am excited about the ability to take custom playbooks into online CC mode this year.

I would rather have something I can work with than have nothing at all. That leaves it to the consumer on whether to pass on the feature or deal with the hiccups in it.

There are alot of aspects of coaching that don't get added in, but easily could be. Back in Madden 03, when you could make your own plays - you could add in what angle the receiver would turn by degrees and that would make a huge difference on how they would come out of their breaks. Sometimes the spacing on plays just isn't well thought out. It's easy to watch what happens on Sunday and put what you see in, but it's harder to understand how the game works and to make the plays work like they do on Sunday. Since I was able to do it with a clunky custom playbook creator interface, he should be able to do it with all the tools and time allocated to him. As it stands, there are entirely too many "waste plays" in the game - and that is what made Custom Playbooks a must. Since the NFL runs no "waste plays" there should be no "waste plays" in Madden. They exist year after year though.

Lol That was his excuse for leaving out the fantasy draft and the ability to import drafts from NCAA. I get where he is coming from though if it cant be done right there is no reason to put in the game because it just gives people something to complain about not working.

If they used it, it should be in the game doesn't matter how many times they ran it. Its in the playbook they"ll run it when they choose. I just hope eventually they can have a system to DL new plays to the game that didn't make it to the final build. That would be awesome.

playbooks havent been stripped down because of gameflow. they are 99% replicas of what you see on sundays. I see the guy that does the playbooks in action. he sits there with all 1000+ plays in a season and watches them all and then creates them in madden.

what you see now is what the league is running, what we remember (glory days of playbooks) had crazzzzy formations which unfortunately need to be removed because teams dont run them anymore.

at the same time they listen for feedback. I went in and asked "Hey the Pats run this Gun Trips Twin TE formaion (last seen in madden 09 in the pass balanced playbook) and they said ya we will put it in if they ran it enough. I said "ya they ran it a ton".

guess how many times they ran that play last year? ONCE. I think im pretty level headed but i let me homerism get the best of my memory there.

If theres formations you want me to ask about - let me know.

you always want the features that you werent expecting! gotta deliver what they arent talking about. gotta make the decisions and have it be embraced.

im pumped for 13 and byeond

I am excited about the physics but at the same point discouraged about the exclusion of custom playbooks from the game. Especially when you take into account that the playbooks have been stripped down the last 2 years to accommodate the "gameflow" concept and are very generic.

I am trying to be very proactive towards my approach as I know i will most likely buy it but it is very discouraging to see that we hear the same reason for the inabilty to add features to the game that have been requested for years and that is "TIME".

I always get Madden so I can not say that this influenced my decision but this is the first time I have been this anxious for madden in June. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the revival of the best selling sports game of all time. They listened to the complaints ( psychic defensive back AI, predetermined tackles,10 year old passing game, stale commentary ) of the customers and seemed to have addressed most of them. Going forward I hope they can continue to listen to the community while being innovative enough to give us features that maybe we didnt know we wanted. It's a fine line but I would rather them walk it rather than avoid it.
