Madden 08 NG - Defending the Quick Fade
Here is another pass route than many are gong to use whenever normal
man coverage is called. The reason for this is the quick fade is money
against normal man coverage once you get the timing down.
| In the screen shot above, the FL is running a fade
route. |
The best way to counter the quick fade route is to
call bump-n-run man coverage. |
| Once the ball is snapped, the LCB will jam the receiver at
the line of scrimmage. |
What this does is it keeps the LCB from getting out of
position like he normally would if normal man coverage was called. |
| The LCB steps in front of the FL and picks the pass
off. |
Delayed Bump-n-Run Man Coverage
| Another effective counter to defending the quick fade
is delayed bump-n-run man coverage. |
First call bump-n-run. |
| Next, reset the defense. The CBs will line up at normal
depth. If your opponent isn't paying attention, he may not notice
that you called delayed bump-n-run coverage. He will assume he can
can throw the quick fade. |
He would be wrong most of the time. In the screen
shot above, the LCB comes up to jam the FL. |
| This throws the timing off between the QB and FL. |
Notice the LCB gets inside position on the FL. This
makes it very difficult for the pass to be completed. |
| The LCB picks the pass off. |
There are times when the LCB may not get in perfect
position to defend the quick fade. |
| In the screen shot above, the LCB jams the receiver,
but ... |
... once the pass is thrown, he is not able to knock
the pass down. |
| Even so, he normally can make a quick tackle ... |
... on the FL before he has a chance to do much with
the ball. |
What bump-n-run man coverage does is keeps the receiver from jumping
way up in the air when the quick fade is ran to the right side of the
screen. If you see your opponent using the quick fade, call bump-n-run
or delayed bump-n-man coverage to counter this route. |
