Madden 08 NG - Singleback Bunch TE Compressed Motion TE Streak Concept

Concept:

The Singleback Bunch TE Compressed Motion TE Streak Concept can be used to beat the 3 Man Pass Rush or any other type of man blitz scheme our opponent may throw at us. By compressing the Singleback Bunch TE further in and motioning the TE, we can easily counter the heat while lined up under center.

Primary Patterns:

TE (X) - Streak

Offensive Play Used:

Defensive Play Used:

How the Concept Works on the Field:

To get the Singleback Bunch TE even more compressed, we set the Shotgun Trips TE HB Swing as our A audible.

The play we use for this concept is the Singleback Bunch TE Drive Corner. The TE is our primary receiver.

Notice the three receivers (WR1, WR2, and WR3) are bunched (compressed) up on the right side of field. We are going to compress them even further in by creating a new formation on the fly.

The defense used is the Quarter 3 Deep DE Contain. The LB Pass Rush package has been called. The defensive line has been pinched and crashed in. The team we use on defense is the Chargers. We don't have to tell you how much heat this defense brings from the DEs.

To compress the Singleback Bunch TE, we press the X button, the press the A Button, we then press the X button, and the LT button. The WR2 will now stack up behind the RT.

The WR1 and WR3 will line up further inside. We have now created a new formation. We like to call it Singleback Bunch TE Compressed.

Once compressed, we hot route the WR2 to pass block to the left.

We hot route the TE on a streak.

We could run the play at this point and the TE would not be jammed by the RCB. We may be able to throw a quick bullet pass to the TE within the first five yards, but we have bigger plans.

We take control of the TE and ...

... motion him to the left.

After he sets, we motion him back to the right.

Before we get to showing how open the TE gets once the ball is snapped, let's look at how we are able to avoid being sacked when our opponent uses the 3 Man Pass Rush.

The DEs will look to shoot the A Gap quickly as soon as the ball is snapped.

By compressing the receivers, the WR2 blocks to the inside.

This also allows the interior offensive linemen to pick up the 3 Man Pass , so we have enough time to throw to the TE.

We snap the ball when the TE gets a few yards inside of the RCB.

If the ball is snapped at the right time ...

the TE will blow by the RCB.

If Cover 0 or Cover 1 is called, the TE will be wide open. If Cover 2 Man is called or some other defense where the FS plays the deep half, we will throw ball between him and the RCB. We like to throw it to the inside when we see this coverage.

We make the catch about 12 yards down the field.

If the FS gets out of position, there is a good chance we will go in for six. If not, we normally pick up anywhere between the 10-15 yards.

Key Points:

  • This concept can be ran from any Singleback Bunch TE pass play.
  • By being creative, there are other ways to put a faster receiver at TE. However, if this is done, we cannot create the Singleback Bunch TE Compressed formation.
  • If your opponent is not setting up the 3 Man Pass Rush or is not blitzing, this concept can be ran from the Singleback Bunch TE without having to run it from the Singleback Bunch TE Compressed.
  • If bump-n-run man coverage is not called, the TE will still get open, but he won't gain as much separation on the RCB.

This strategy breakdown was taken from Kobra's Guide to the Run-N-Gun Playbook for Next Gen systems.
