Madden 08 - Slant Slot Flat

The Slants Slot Flat play in the Steelers playbook is one of the most used plays out there. You have outstanding route combos and you also have excellent hot reads. The one thing that the Patriots do well is that Brady makes quick reads and gets rid of the ball when he sees the heat. In this year's game you need quick hitters to handle the pressure that many ballers bring.

This is the play before we make any adjustments.

This is the play after the re-flip and before the ball is snapped. Notice where Moss is at. Now once you hike the ball you will see that Moss will get close, but not as close to the formation as before. Now you need to motion him and then hike the ball. When you do, you will get the results that you will read in the article below.. Now the main key here is that an adjustment will be made.

VG Sports Filmroom Tip: If they pull someone to defend the TE, you will have two more options on the same side to attack. You also will have two backside routes if needed.

What I saw is this weeks match-up is Brady used some forms of Compressed sets to provide protection and expose match-ups. He also used picks and rubs to get people free. Now what I did was use the re-flip to get my TE behind the line. Then I also put Moss is motion towards the formation. Before he gets set, I snap the ball.

In the screen above, the defense is in press coverage. By motioning Moss and snapping the ball before he is set, I am able to get the TE is wide open in the flat.

VG Sports Filmroom Tip: If I didn't use the motion and the re-flip the TE would still get open. However, by using the motion and re-flip, I am able to get the TE even more open. I also am able to create a pick and the assignments got cross allowing my receivers get even more open, plus not get jammed at the line of scrimmage.

You see that Moss is driving hard inside and Welker is going up field. No defender covers Watson at all. The man that was covering him got crossed up.

I make the catch in the flat while in control of Watson.

When the defenders see that Watson has the ball, they will chase him down. I am able to pick up 8 yards before being brought down.

You can see that the DB1 is running with Moss.

You see here that the DB1 is now rolling with Welker. Moss has no defender covering him.

In the screen shot above notice that the LB that is on Welker is now running with Moss. The defender covering Moss is out of position to defend Welker or Moss.

Now look at Welker. He is wide open. You see that both LB's are running towards Watson.

You also have a nice back side with Stallworth working the slant. Notice he has inside position on the defender covering him.

A nice play to just go one the field and just hike. Then you can also enhance it to make it better. This is a look at how N.E. move the ball and why they have the best offense in the league right now.
