MaddenTips.com Newsletter - September 1st

New & Notable

It’s hard to believe that Madden NFL 10 is already two weeks old. The first tournaments are in the books, online franchises are in full swing, and the competition is heating up online.

This past weekend marked the start of the MLG EA SPORTS Challenge Series sponsored by Best Buy. All that came out and participated were introduced to the next level of competitive gaming. If you are interested in putting your Madden skills on display, be sure to register for the next event in Anaheim, Nov 6-8th at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Let us tell you a little of what to expect at an MLG event, if you have never been to one before. You will immediately be impressed at the size of the venue. A Madden event has never been held in a setting like this. You will be competing in an area equal to the size of the E3 floor filled with the highest level of gamers in the world. To prepare yourself for the Anaheim event, make sure you spend a lot of time coming up with defensive schemes for Shotgun 2 Back, Shotgun Snugs, I-Form Twin TE and Goal line formations. There is no one way to stop everything… The best way to prepare for an event is to make sure you have more than one way to defend these formations, so your opponent will not be able to figure out your scheme. A predictable defense is a very ineffective defense.

We can help you out with your preparation. Each week, we focus hours and hours of time coming up with great schemes for both offense and defense in our Madden Season Pass (http://www.maddentips.com/maddentips.html). Get yours today to keep the competition from passing you by.

This past week also marked the return of Brett Favre and Michael Vick to the Madden scene. Already Vick has been put to use in the Dallas EA SPORTS Challenge where he was the focal point on many schemes.

In this edition of the MaddenTips.com newsletter, we are going to take a look at one type of scheme that you can use to put Vick’s feet into action.

Using Michael Vick with a Bunch Set WR Block

Gun Bunch Wk Spacing – Flipped
by Philly Ron

Only in Madden will a team have a top 5 quarterback who gets benched for the team’s 3rd string quarterback. Then again, when the new QB on the team is Michael Vick, a.k.a. Must See TV, and the best offensive Madden weapon ever, you expect him to start. With all of the current excitement spreading throughout the Madden community, let’s take a look at a very effective way to get him reaclimated to Maddenfootball.

Playbooks:

  • Broncos
  • Cardinals
  • Eagles
  • Jets
  • Packers
  • Patriots
  • Rams
  • Steelers

With Michael Vick now on the Eagles roster we can pretty much attack the defense on both sides of the field efficiently. Vick is more of a threat going left and when on the run. We call the Gun Bunch Wk Spacing and flip it at the play call screen.

Earlier this week my Pop Warner team was in a scrimmage where the opposing team’s offense ran a tight bunch formation and kept the outside receiver in to block. As soon as I saw this it took my mind right to Madden and how this could be used with Vick. Instead of using the exact scheme, we will keep the outside bunched receiver in to block. We send the slot and the running back on fade routes. This will help stretch the field and make the defense decide to protect the deep pass threats or the speed of our quarterback.

When we start the play and drop Vick back to look over the defense we can see that the defense is in a Cover 2 shell.

As we roll out to the left we know the defense is in a 2 Deep Man Under defense because the corners have been run off by our receivers. We now have plenty of room to take off with Vick around the corner.

Even though we take off running with Vick we still have our split receiver running a slant route to the inside of the field. The slant route is a perfect option to keep the defense from sending multiple defenders at Vick to slow him down. If they come up we will have a pass option open down the field.

Vick’s 90 speed rating is too much for the defense and we’re able to get around the edge and down the field for a gain of 20-yards on the scramble.
