Some players get really hung up on money plays. The problem with that is, what do you do when somebody takes away your money? How do you adjust? Do you have a scheme that is flexible and can defeat any type of defense thrown at it? How can you deal with defenses that disguise their coverages well?

The Spread is the brother of the compression. They both work in the same way, but there is a difference. The Spread allows you to attack the defense vertically and horizontally. It also allows you to generate great rushing or passing yards.
The defense has to choose how they want to be attacked. For example if you're in a Singleback 4 wide and if the defense loads the box, you have slots that are in position to get great gains if unaccounted for.
If they man up the wideouts, you now have a cleaner box to attack. Screens are also very effective in the spread. The use of motion also makes things harder to deal with when in the spread. You also have an advantage because there are more spread sets to work with (gamewise) than compressed sets.
You can also use bigger wideouts to run this scheme if you lack speed. Bigger wideouts like Buress, the duo in Arizona, and TEs can run this system very well because of the size differential. If you also have a crowded backfield, RBs are very effective. Many times this year, Bush was spread out as a slot and caught a match-up that was to his liking. This can be dangerous and can cause all kinds of problems.
Like any system that we use, we have to have some pound game. The spread is very effective when it comes to pounding the rock. In Madden 2007, the deep lob, quick pass, flats, and sneaks are in the game to assist you.
You add these things to the spread and you have a system that will drive players to break their sticks.

This is something that you will face from time to time. Hell, you will probably see it all the time. The main reason is because there is limited heat in the game. The deep ball and flats make it hard to bring wood. The one thing with heat is that you have to be able to press the WRs. If you do that, then the flats are open.
If you don't press then you have to deal with quick passing. If you dip down on underneath routes, you get killed up top. So, the defense of choice is putting everyone in coverage. You need to learn how to beat it in order to move the ball well in the spread.

Many of us like to have more people near the line so that we can have someone covering our backsides when we need to get that much-needed first down. The thing is that the spread allows you to see who's coming so that you can adjust on the fly. Learn How the Spread Can Create a Dominating Run Game. What we love most about the Spread is the way that you can pound the rock. The Spread allows the box to be cleaner and provides better rushing lanes to work with. This way when the run commit is used, it's not as effective because of the lack of help inside. Also if the defense likes to play the run, you can expose them passing-wise. |

Make Progessions Like Peyton. The number one thing that every player needs to do when they take on a new system is to work on their pass progressions. This is what Manning and Brady do as top QBs in the NFL. They make some of the best reads out there. They check down and look off players till they hit the open guy to make you respect them. This is key is something we frequently discuss to guys in our group and in the filmroom. We hate to see a player throw a ball to someone with 2-3 defenders on them. Now you don't have to either. |

Become a PhD in the Un-covered WR Theory. In order to run the spread well, you have to be able to hit the uncovered player on every single play. This is so the defense will respect them. If the defense sees that they can roll extra people to another assignment, this puts pressure on your offensive scheme. Detroit Playbook If you look through the D-Town playbook and the St. Louis playbook, you'll notice that they are actually the same. In this section, we wanted to move away from playbooks and showing plays. What ballers need most are schemes. Take any of those schemes and use them in any playbook of your choosing. Here, we've made a list of every playbook that had some form of spread and pulled one of them out of the hat. This book does indeed have spread and compression. You can also get some pound out of it with nice formation shifts. Let's take a look at some plays and effective schemes from this playbook. Singleback Sets You will find that you will be using many singleback sets when you get the spread down properly. We will show you a few plays that we liked in the singleback that you can use till you put your own touch on it. Sidleline Drags
This is a nice spread set alone without messing with it. The thing that you will walk away from the Commish section of the guide is meshing your sets together. What we are going to do is formation shift this to the 4 wide.
You have a play that has a post to the middle and a mini dig hitting the outside. You also have a drag with a streak in case your opponent dips down on your SL1 post route. We also want you to pull a HB flat route to this play as an outlet.
You can see from this view of the coach's cam that the FL and the SL2 are working with each other. The drag will pull the DB inside so that you can hit the mini dig. This is if they're in man. In most zones we labbed, the DB will be pulled or drop back. You just have to make the read to see where the DB1 goes.
Look at this. You see that the defense was in man and that the FL can provide a rub for him. He is wide open.
We make a nice catch to move the chains. This is also a play that you can flip. This way, the defense can't cheat to one side. |
