5WR-Comebacks

I like to keep my opponent on his toes by changing the look of my offense. Meaning, if I come out in a 2 back set, then I may go into a 4WR set, and then I may go into the 5WR set. As you get deeper into the guide, you will see the benefit of going between these different sets.

I put 5 WR Comebacks in my Audibles. If you're running a book that has any 5WR sets in it, I suggest that you put at least one 5WR play in your Audibles.

The main focus of this play is the routes your outside receivers are running.

The defense is in a regular man type defense.

Your opponent will usually call man bump n run coverage with the best possible coverage. As a result, the corner covering the FL moves inside. Sometimes, your opponent will just move the corner inside to cover a slant route.

In this screen shot, notice how the corner is giving up the sideline to the FL.

After I hike the ball, I see the FL beats the corner to the outside.

I pass lead up to make sure the FL makes the catch. There is no way the corner can intercept the pass.

Let's look at the SE. It appears my opponent has done the same thing on this side of the field.

The corner is giving up the sideline to the SE.

The SE immediately gets separation from the corner.

He is almost 5 Yards behind the SE. He is smoked.

Again, I pass lead up to make sure the SE makes the catch.

If you have someone that likes to play zone, it gets worse.

After I hike the ball, the corner backpedals.

His back is to the receiver as he heads up field.

The FL makes the catch.

If you have a receiver as fast as Moss, you will be getting some good YAC.

I score a TD here and I bet the defense won't come out in zone anymore.

Final Thoughts

This is a play that will catch people off guard as long as you stay with the concept of mixing in the 5WR set with your other Spread sets. Take it to the lab.
