Top 5 Passing Teams
The NFL has clearly shifted to a passing game with multiple QBs throwing for over 5,000 yards last season! This season in Madden NFL 13, gamers will have the control to pass the ball anywhere with total control passing. This means QBs who can spread defenses with solid WRs will be able to accurately deliver the ball to space. Good passing could mean having certain types of WRs. Some players like big targets while others like speedy ones. Some guys just need solid guys across the board while others like dominant ones. Don’t forget about HBs and TEs, as they have evolved into great receivers for many of these teams as well. See what team fits your style this year.
5. New York Giants
4. New England Patriots
3. Detroit Lions
2. Green Bay Packers
1. New Orleans Saints
Honorable Mentions—Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs
5. New York Giants
Pro Tip: The Giants have some solid targets at tight end—find one that suits your offensive style.
Last season, Eli Manning proved his reputation not only as a big-game QB, but also as an elite downfield passer. He has consistently been able to turn players into stars on his offense and now has some of the best playmakers in football. WR Victor Cruz exploded onto the scene last year and should once again be a force. Like Cruz, WR Hakeem Nicks is capable of taking shorter passes and going the distance. The Giants have plenty of depth at receiver as well, with big target Ramses Barden, shifty Jerrel Jernigan, and rookie Rueben Randle!
4. New England Patriots
Pro Tip: Tom Brady loves to command a no-huddle offense; if you catch the defense in the wrong formation, keep the pace up.
The Patriots have a future Hall of Famer in QB Tom Brady, who threw for over 5,000 yards last season. New England improved his weapons this off-season, too. Brandon Lloyd joins the team and provide unique skills at WR. Lloyd is capable of making some of the greatest catches Madden NFL has ever seen. They decided not to keep Stallworth who would have helped stretch the field vertically to compliment Wes Welker. Welker is back and will be a reliable third down target for the offense because he hangs onto nearly everything over the middle. At tight end, no team has a better tandem than enormous Rob Gronkowski and shifty Aaron Hernandez. These two require so much attention from defenses and can shift around to multiple positions to keep defenses off balance!
3. Detroit Lions
Pro Tip: Jahvid Best is a great player to throw screen passes to out of the backfield. Use his outstanding ability to make sharp cuts to your advantage.
Any time you have the most dominant player in the game going out for passes, that team is going to be considered top tier. WR Calvin Johnson commands a double team on almost every snap and can out-jump nearly any defender in the league. Working underneath are WRs Titus Young and Nate Burleson, who give QB Matt Stafford great options. Stafford has an incredibly strong arm and can attack the middle to his TEs with great zip on his throws. They added even more depth this year by drafting WR Ryan Broyles.
2. Green Bay Packers
Pro Tip: The Packers are best when James Starks is slipping out of the backfield catching passes too. He has solid skills for a power-style back.
The Green Bay passing attack benefits from having the most complete QB in the game under center. Aaron Rodgers can make every throw downfield and has just enough ability to scramble for key first downs. With weapons like wide receivers Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, and Randall Cobb, you can simply spread out most defenses and force them to use dime formations. Keeping them high on the list is TE Jermichael Finley, who re-signed and gives defenses matchup nightmares with his size. If Finley can hang onto balls in traffic, this team may simply be unstoppable.
1. New Orleans Saints
Pro Tip: Devery Henderson is one of the fastest players in Madden NFL 13—try a WR screen to him to mix it up!
It makes sense that Drew Brees and the Saints offense, who shattered passing records last season, would be tops on the list. The key to the Saints offense is the size on the outside of WR Marques Colston and TE Jimmy Graham. These players force defenses to worry about defending deep on almost every play and open things up for elite talents like HB Darren Sproles to pick up yards underneath! If you are a gamer who likes to click on and make user catches this has to be your team this season.
