Zan's Corner: 4-4 Coverage Defense

Last time on Zan’s Corner we talked about defending the QB Blast from the Gun Heavy Panther.

Today we will take a look at the 4-4 defense (43 playbook) and see why it’s not only a great formation for blitzing but for playing coverage as well!

The 4-4 defense is well known to bring some of the best gap heat in Madden NFL 13, but not much is out there in terms of setting up coverage defense, since the formation employs eight in the box. With this setup, you’ll have a better time mixing up pressure and coverage (without giving up all pass rush ability when dropping back).

4-4 Zone Blitz Setup
1. Bump-n-run
2. Spread the linebackers
3. From left to right on the defensive line: purple, spy, flat, purple
4. User the left MLB in a hook zone
